Ceremony and Symposium for GZIST Huizhou Boluo Campus Launch and Development

On November 25, Gaungzhou Institute of Science and Technology (GZIST) hosted the Ceremony and Symposium for its Huizhou Boluo Campus Launch and Development, with the theme of “Synergy between Science-Industry-Academia and Win-win for Government-Enterprise-University Partnerships” and the aim to promote cooperation between government, university and enterprise, to integrate the synergy of industry, academia, and research, to speed up construction of industrial parks, to enhance the University quality growth and to make greater contributions to the Guangdong-Hongkong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the Huizhou local economy and social development.

GZIST President Hu Shejun spelled out at the launch ceremony the University strategic plan to serve Huizhou City economy and social development and the mission to “facilitate our students in sharpening one technique and skill, transform their lives by education, turn them into self-sufficient builders of our society,” to serve the Guangdong-Hongkong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), to work with countries on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) line, to stand out for our new engineering features and humanities disciplinary advantages, to develop disciplines and majors that are closely associated with latest technology, industries, sectors for university-enterprise, university-locality, industry-academia as well as science-academia integration and partnerships. Let us join hands in strengthening the chains of higher education, innovation, talents, industries and capital for developing an innovation-driven, application-oriented, and highly technical workforce.

In September 2023, Guangdong Province Department of Education issued its approval to GZIST for launch of Huizhou Boluo Campus, located in Longhua Township, Boluo County, Huizhou City, with an area of 500 mu (33.3333 hectares) and a planned building area of five hundred thousand square meters. The first cohort of freshmen in residence numbers 6500 in 37 majors.

The new campus also houses the newly established School of Aeronautics, School of New Energy Automotive Engineering and School of Information and Optoelectronic Engineering, the University Science and Technology Park, the Cultural Creative Park and the University Students’ Innovation Incubation Base. Enterprises will be invited to station in the parks for technology transfer, serving Guangdong new strategic industries, advanced manufacturing and equipment, informatics, industrial software, cultural creative industries, digital economy and export-oriented economy.

Huizhou City Vice Mayor Duan Zhihui and Boluo County CPC Standing Committee Member and Deputy Head Wei Yanxiong addressed the Ceremony by reaffirming GZIST that the local government at all levels will give the University all their strong support as ever by further improving the transportation and services in the neighboring areas of the University and working more closely to jointly blaze a new trail in university-enterprise, industry-academia, innovation and synergy partnerships to serve the local development.

Guangzhou Automobile Group and BYD Group signed at the Ceremony strategic cooperation and donation agreements with GZIST. Twelve new energy automobiles are donated for GZIST’s teaching and research. Guangzhou Automobile Group will also offer GZIST students scholarships.

GZIST hosted a symposium on industry-academia-research partnerships and industrial parks after the launch ceremony. The government officials, entrepreneurs and experts heard the University’s presentation on the construction of science and technology parks, government-university-enterprise partnerships and industry-academia-research integration.

The campus launch signifies the pattern of “one university in three districts”. The Huizhou Campus has been listed as a key construction project of Guangdong Province and Huizhou City for the 14th Five-Year Plan, the fastest model of achievement in the history of Boluo County. The campus is certainly an impetus to the University’s expansion and the local higher education.
