(He Yuting, Liang Yuming, Fang Shuliang) On April 25, GZIST hosted the inauguration of the Artificial Intelligence Specialized Committee of Guangdong Private Education Association and the Seminar on Artificial Intelligence Enabled Education, Innovation and Development. The event was organized by Guangdong Private Education Association and hosted by Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology (GZIST). Yuan Jun, a  director of Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, Zhao Kang, President of Guangdong Private Education Association, Zhang Yaorong, Executive Vice President, and Huang Shengcheng, GZIST Secretary of the Party Committee, attended the seminar. Zhang Shimei, GZIST Vice President, Yin Jian, Vice Dean of Artificial Intelligence College of Sun Yat-sen University, and Academician Fang Ming, Vice President of iFLYTEK CO.LTD., delivered keynote reports. The seminar had 200 attendants from colleges and universities in the field of artificial intelligence in the Province as well as leaders, experts and scholars from well-known enterprises to  share insights into education empowered by artificial intelligence.

Huang Shengcheng, GZIST Secretary of the Party Committee expressed his warm welcome to the participating leaders, experts and scholars and his gratitude to them who have long supported and advised the development of the University. He pointed out that artificial intelligence is reshaping the global industrial pattern at an unprecedented speed, bringing profound changes in the field of education, such as teaching mode innovation and universal sharing of resources. Guangdong Province actively responds to the national “New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan” and Ministry of Education's “Education Digitalization Strategy Action 2025”, thus establishing Guangdong Province Artificial Intelligence Specialized Committee, to gather the wisdom and power of the academia and industry and to explore new path and paradigm for AI-enabled education. He said the University will continue to deepen integration of industry and education, strengthen talent training and related research, and help the construction of Chinese path to modernization.

Wang Yulin, GZIST Dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence introduced in detail the preparations for the Spcialized Committee, the charter (draft) and the organizational structure.

After the election, Fu Huanchang, GZIST Executive Vice President was appointed Chairman of the First Specialized Committee Board of Directors, while Lv Junmin, Vice President of Guangzhou Huashang College, Fang Weihua, Executive President of Dongguan City College, Li Gen, Dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data of Guangdong Gongshang Vocational and Technological University, Yuan Junying, Deputy Dean of Guangzhou Southern College, Zhu Zijiang, Dean of the School of Computing of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies South China Business College, Cao Chunhua, Dean of Guangzhou City Construction College, and Bei Wenqun, Dean of Guangzhou Huaxia Vocational College School of Information Engineering, were appointed Executive Vice Chairmen of the Committee, and Wang Yulin, GZIST Dean of the Artificial Intelligence School, was appointed Secretary-General. Experts and professors from 13 organizations, including Guangzhou Business School and Guangzhou Institute of Commerce and Industry, became Vice Chairmen and Deputy Secretaries-General of the Committee. Zhao Kang, President of Guangdong Private Education Association (GDPEA), presented letters of appointment to the Chairman and Executive Vice Chairmen. Zhang Yaorong, GDPEA Executive Vice President, presented letters of appointment to the Vice Chairmen, and Fu Huanchang, GZIST Executive Vice President presented letters of appointment to the Secretary-General and Deputy Secretaries-General.

At the seminar, Fu Huanchang, the elected chairman, made an inaugural speech. He made clear the future focus of the Committee: first, to integrate the resources of all parties to build a quality platform for collaborative innovation. Second, to vigorously promote the application of intelligent teaching, personalized learning and other areas of application, and effectively transform cutting-edge technology to the driving force of educational development. Third, to actively promote the extensive sharing of AI educational resources and the comprehensive opening of high-quality courses to break  barriers of resources, so that more people can benefit. Fourth, to focus on strengthening the construction of teachers and enhancing teachers' AI literacy through a series of initiatives to develop a high-quality, professionalized teaching team.

The participating leaders and representatives jointly unveiled a plaque for the Guangdong Private Education Association Specialized Committee on Artificial Intelligence.

Zhang Shimei, GZIST Vice President, presented the theme “Artificial Intelligence Empowers Education Innovation - Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology in Action”. She detailed the University's specific initiatives and achievements in the practice of AI education and innovation, including how to integrate AI technology with the teaching process, innovate the curriculum system, and carry out practical teaching activities.

 

The seminar was hosted by Huang Nansong, GZIST Executive Vice President. Prof. Yin Jian of Sun Yat-sen University gave a keynote report titled “Poetic Course Romantic Journey - Exploration and Practice of Artificial Intelligence General Education at Sun Yat-sen University”, demonstrating a new look of the AI course after integrating science and technology with humanities from the perspective of liberal studies.

Academician Fang Ming, Vice President of iFLYTEK CO.LTD., , gave a keynote report on “Talent Cultivation Path in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”, in which he shared the company’s case study of cooperation between industry, academia and research institutes in cultivating talents, analyzing the brand-new requirements for talents in the age of AI from the perspective of both technological development and industrial needs.

Zhao Kang, President of Guangdong Private Education Association made a conclusion that AI technology is accelerating the change of education, especially at the critical moment of digital transformation of education. The establishment of the Specialized Committee is a necessary initiative to respond to the national strategy, aiming at exploring the innovative path of the deep integration of AI and education, and creating a model project of AI-enabled higher education. He reviewed the practical achievements of Guangdong Province in the field of AI education, and clarified the three core tasks of the AI Specialized Committee: to become a“strategic think tank” for AI education innovation, to create an “ecological platform” for resource synergy, and to build a “convoy system” for industry standardization. He also put forward four key action plans, covering “AI+Teaching”, “AI+Governance”, “Digital Literacy Project”, and “Ethics and Security”. He hoped that the participating experts and scholars would focus on the theme of the seminar, discuss and exchange ideas, and provide diversified explorations and thoughts on the in-depth integration of AI and education, and how private universities and colleges can ride on the trend in the era of AI.

 

After the seminar, the participants visited GZIST exhibition of AI products developed by the University teachers and students and the laboratories of the Engineering  Center of Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology on campus.
